David Chapman (piano)

David Chapman has music degrees from San Jose State University, California (scholarship recipient, Outstanding Instrumentalist three years consecutively and concerto soloist); Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y. (graduate assistant in opera coaching, Performer's Certificate and concerto soloist); Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore, Maryland (graduate assistant in opera coaching, scholarship recipient and Graduate Performance Diploma); University of Maryland at College Park (ABD - ha!); and was a Fulbright scholar for two years to Stuttgart, Germany.

During the 11 years he lived in Germany and Italy, he performed concerts in seven different countries under contract to three different concert agencies. He has given voice and piano master classes in China during three different concert tours (including a three-week stay at the Shanghai Opera House), in Russia at the Moscow Conservatory (two years in a row) and at the Universities of Oklahoma, Nebraska and Pennsylvania. He has performed in many important venues such as Carnegie Hall, National Gallery of Art and the Kennedy Center Opera House. He collaborates as pianist and vocal coach with many professional singers, including internationally known dramatic soprano Alessandra Marc.

David begins his ninth year as Music Director and pianist for Paint Branch UU Church. The choir has grown from 12 to 32 members since his arrival in 2002. David, along with the Arts Council, began a concert series that sponsors from five to eight concerts a year. He is a member of the Friday Morning Music Club and NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing).
